About Us

Rev. Dr. Anthony Young

Rev. Dr. Anthony Young is a dynamic and forward-thinking spiritual leader, theologian, and community advocate who brings a culturally conscious, gospel-centered approach to ministry. He is deeply committed to creating inclusive spaces of spiritual renewal, healing, and empowerment, where everyone feels at home, regardless of their background, socioeconomic status, or life experiences.

With a ministry style that blends sound biblical preaching, practical teaching, humor, and relational authenticity, Dr. Young believes that the Word of God must be both accessible and applicable. “It’s not about your income level, the clothes you wear, or the car you drive, it’s about your personal relationship with Christ and your journey of transformation,” he often says.

Raised primarily on the West Coast in Tacoma, Washington, Dr. Young’s personal journey has been shaped by early experiences with instability and hardship. From those formative years emerged a deep, resilient faith. His testimony is rooted in the conviction that “in the midst of human brokenness is where you truly discover what faith in Jesus is all about.”

Dr. Young is a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served honorably during the Gulf War. His academic achievements include a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Southeastern University, a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from the historic Howard University School of Divinity, and a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) from Payne Theological Seminary—where his scholarship focused on church revitalization and global mission strategy within the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

He currently serves as the esteemed Pastor of Mount Olive AME Church in Annapolis, Maryland, where his visionary leadership continues to inspire spiritual growth, community engagement, and global mission outreach. Prior to his appointment at Mount Olive, Dr. Young faithfully served as Pastor of New Creation AME Church in Fort Washington, Maryland, and Saint Paul AME Church in Frederick, Maryland.
History

From the Mission Church to Mount Olive A. M. E. Church

Just as in the book of Acts, Mount Olive A.M. E. Church (Mount Olive) was formed by meeting in a home of a believer of Jesus Christ. The family of the late Rev. John H. Harris hosted the original gatherings beginning in 1870. The congregates consisted of African Americans who were denied the right to religious freedoms and practices because of the discrimination that they endured due to the color of their skin.

Mount Olive made several transitions as it grew from a House Church, to Singing and Praying Bands, to a “Mission Church,” and to a member of African Methodist Denomination.  Mount Olive grew in defiance of racial injustice. The location of the Church changed several times until land was purchased in an area called, “Parole” in Annapolis, Maryland in 1909, where it currently remains. The Church served the community in several ways. It served as a school for children of color. And it offered hope through the edification of the word of God.

The Church is known for its outreach and missionary programs. The stewardess board was formed followed by the “Usherettes,” “The Vesper Choir” and “The Trustee Boosters Club.” During the administration of  Rev. John W. Duckette, many clubs and activities were initiated. Rev. Edgar L. James promoted community outreach by sponsoring citywide basketball and baseball teams.  Even a Class Leader System was developed to stay close to our members. We now have several ministries and organizations.

Under the direction of Rev. Dr. Ronald L. Owens, the Blessing Clothes and Food Resource Center was formed to help the community-at-large who may need clothes and food. A prayer line has been established to help those that need intercession. Mount Olive’s goal is to touch the lives of more people and expand the membership of the Church.

Today at Mount Olive, we are reminded that we have come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord, trusting his Holy Word, and recognizing that he has been generous, merciful and true. We are Thankful!
